An update from the Academy of the Winds Board:
First, I want to thank you all for your patience. We have taken the weekend to evaluate the current situation in Lander. We have tried to understand the risks, the spread, and the availability of treatment in Fremont County.
As you all probably know we have one confirmed case in Lander. This has also been confirmed as a community spread. So now the question is, how do we respond as a community?
We have agonized over that question. What is a responsible citizen of this community to do? We have looked to the CDC for that answer. They are recommending social distancing to help slow down the spread.
Here in Lander we are in a unique situation. We don’t have a huge hospital that can take a huge amount of patients at the same time. Which makes our job as Lander citizens that much more important. We have to protect our own, by doing what we can.
However, the public school has not made the decision, as of now, to close the school. [FCSD #1 is closed through April 5th]
We have weighed this decision heavily. We have talked to many doctors and nurses to get their unique perspective about this situation and the impact that it has on Lander.
In light of the decisions made to close colleges, city service centers, and local businesses, we are going to follow suit.
It is with great difficulty that the board of the Academy of the Winds are making the decision for our community, our personal families, and the families and grandparents of our school that we will be closed through March.
Please know that we realize how difficult this will be for some families. We do not make this decision lightly, and we hope that in time we will all be able to resume life as normal.
We will refund part of this months tuition to help with expenses during this time. We understand that this is a difficult time.
We will review at the end of March and make decisions in regards to reopening and tuition payment for April.
