The Community Health Center of Central Wyoming is pleased to announce that they have entered into an agreement with TriWest, the US Department of Veterans Affairs third-party administrator, to launch the Veterans Community Care Program, at its locations in both Natrona and Fremont Counties.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) launched its new and improved Veterans Community Care Program on June 6, 2019, implementing portions of the VA Maintaining Internal Systems and Strengthening Integrated Outside Networks Act of 2018 (MISSION Act), which both ends the Veterans Choice Program and establishes a new Veterans Community Care Program. Under the new Veterans Community Care Program, Veterans can work with their VA health care provider or other VA staff to see if they are eligible to receive community care based on new criteria. Eligibility for community care does not require a Veteran to receive that care in the community, Veterans can still choose to have the VA provide their care. Veterans may elect to receive care in the community if they meet certain criteria.

The Community Health Center will provide eligible Veterans the opportunity to receive Urgent Care at its selected locations. This benefit now provides eligible Veterans with greater choice and access to timely, high-quality care. Urgent care providers treat injuries and illnesses that require immediate attention but are not life-threatening. The benefit supplements care Veterans may also have access to at a VA medical facility. The Urgent Care benefit also includes access to pharmacy services. For urgent prescriptions written by an urgent care provider, Veterans can fill a 14-day supply of medication at a contracted pharmacy within the VA network.

“These benefit’s will allow Veterans greater access to care” stated Carl J. Harris, Chief Operations Officer with the health center, “where time and distance are a barrier to care for the treatment of non-emergent symptoms needing immediate attention, such as flu-like symptoms, strep throat, minor burns, pink-eye, or ear and skin infections, this new urgent care program will provide Veterans with more options when it comes to their health. There are over 9,000 Veterans between both Fremont and Natrona counties, we serve all patients with dignity, compassion, and respect, and in the case of our nation and state Veterans, this is simple the right thing to do.”

Community Health Center Urgent Care hours of operation are from 8 am to 8 pm, Monday through Saturday. The clinic is located at 5000 Blackmore Road, Casper, WY 82609.
