Sheldon Buckingham, 29, of Riverton, was convicted on the following 7 counts during a jury trial last week in Lander’s District Court, according to Fremont County Prosecutor Patrick LeBrun.

1 Count – Aggravated Burglary; 2 Counts – Aggravated Assault and Battery; 1 Count – Property Destruction and Defacement; 1 Count – Interference with Emergency Calls; 1 Count – Battery; and 1 Count – Felony Stalking. Buckingham’s sentencing will be in approximately 6 to 8 weeks after completion of a pre-sentence investigation report, LeBrun explained.

Buckingham faced 8 counts after he entered a Riverton residence with an “AR-15 rifle” on the evening of August 9th, 2019, and threatened his ex who was inside. The same evening, Buckingham fired 13 shots into a vehicle belonging to his ex outside of the Riverton residence. In the early morning hours of August 10th, Buckingham went to the Riverton Police Department and turned himself in.

After approximately 4 hours of deliberation, the jury found Buckingham guilty of the 7 counts mentioned above, and not guilty on one of the two Felony Stalking counts he previously faced.

The charges Buckingham has been convicted of by the jury breakdown to the following maximum penalties:

  • Aggravated Burglary: felony; maximum penalty of imprisonment for no less than 5 years, and no more than 25 years; a fine of no more than $50,000; or both.
