Riverton High School student and local youth leader Jazmine Wildcat has been selected for the Aspen Institute’s Center for Native American Youth (CNAY) 2020 Champions for Change leadership program.

Jazmine is one of five Native youth selected for the year-long program through CNAY. “Champions are up-and-coming leaders with a desire to better their communities,” CNAY shared. “The Champions program is a Native youth leadership initiative designed to highlight positive stories impacting Indian Country through experience-based learning and tailored advocacy training.”

“The 2020 Champions are working to revitalize language and culture, advocate for gun control, destigmatize mental illness, implement traditional coping mechanisms for intergenerational trauma, increase visibility and Native storytelling, among other important initiatives.”

Jazmine and her family are very active in the Fremont County community. They have been instrumental in raising awareness for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls epidemic. As well as being a voice for change and inclusion. Those are just a very small portion of their community involvement. 10Cast had the opportunity to chat with Jazmine and her mom Jenni this past summer. You can hear from them by clicking here.
