Lander Valley High School (LVHS) senior Ryan Brinda was recently selected for the competitive merit-based United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP). Ryan, along with Laramie High School senior Ruby Novogrodsky, will join Senator Michael Enzi and Senator John Barrasso in representing Wyoming in the nation’s capital during the 58th annual USSYP Washington Week, to be held March 7 — 14, 2020.

Ryan and Ruby were selected to represent Wyoming from among the state’s top student leaders to be part of the 104 national student delegation. They also each receive a $10,000 college scholarship.

Every year, two outstanding high school students are selected from each state to participate in an intensive week-long study of the federal government and the people who lead it in Washington, D.C. The overall mission of the program is to help instill within each class of USSYP student delegates more profound knowledge of the American political process and a lifelong commitment to public service.

Ryan is the LVHS Student Body president, member of the National Honor Society, and captains the varsity swimming and cross-country teams. He has been involved in many organizations and committees throughout his high school career, including serving as chairperson of Tour de Wish (Make-a-Wish Wyoming). He is an officer in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), involved in the Thanksgiving Turkey Basket Project, to provide over 1,000 community members with full Thanksgiving dinners annually. He has attended three state and national FBLA leadership conferences.

In addition to outstanding leadership abilities and a strong commitment to volunteer work, the student delegates rank academically in the top one percent of their states among high school juniors and seniors. You can learn more about USSYP by clicking here

Congratulations, Ryan!
