Riverton High School senior Cade Campbell received the 2019 John Hursh Award from the Riverton Junior Football League (RJFL) Friday night after the Riverton vs Rawlins football game.

Since 1996, this award is presented to RHS seniors who played for RJFL, have academic achievements and are involved in the community. Cade shared, “Getting that award meant a lot to me and it was cool the way they presented it. They had one of my old coaches come out and give it to me.”

Not only did he receive the John Hursh Award Friday night, but Marines from Casper and Denver presented Cade his Battles Won Academy certificate of achievement as well. He is the first Wyoming student selected to participate in the United States Marine Corps’ Battles Won Academy this past summer in Washington, D.C. Cade shared in order to be eligible for the academy, “you have to be a high school junior, have at least a 3.5 GPA, play a team sport and have leadership roles.”

Students attending in the academy can bring someone with them and he brought his mentor Riverton Middle School Teacher Aziz Waheed. Cade said, “…he’s been a great, great person in my life and somebody I really look up to and really helps me.”

More information about Battles Won Academy can be found here.
