#Smiles: RHS Speech and Debate team going strong in 2020

The Riverton High School Speech and Debate team have started 2020 out on the right foot! During the course of the Northwest Wyoming College Trapper Rendezvous Forensics Tournament, the Wolverines claimed first place in 3A division. Contributing to the win was Joseph Thornton with a first-place win in both Dramatic Interpretation and Poetic Interpretation. Savana Whitehurst took second-place in Dramatic Interpretation. Isaac Almejo-Ponce took third-place in Duo Interpretation with Carolyn Thornton as his partner. Carolyn was named “the funniest person at the tournament” earning first place in Humorous Interpretation. Lillion Archer placed seventh in Poetic Interpretation, where Taylor Crook earned sixth-place, Kaia Tippets claimed fifth-place, and Shannyn Kreitzer placed second in the same event.
Shannon Kreitzer also placed second-place in Humorous Interpretation. Jessie Rogers placed fifth in Congressional Debate. J.J. Grover also earned an award in Congressional debate, placing third overall. The team was also awarded first overall in Interpretive Events, a first at this tournament for the team!
This was the Wolverines third tournament of the season. They took second place overall in 3A division at both Green River and Rock Springs.
This weekend, January 17 & 18, the team will travel and compete at Cheyenne Central.
